Heartland Forest Outdoor Learning Centre is dedicated to enriching the lives of all people through the enjoyment of a barrier-free nature experience. It is a 93 acre Carolinian forest (one of the largest remaining stands in Niagara), a Provincially Significant Wetland area with wheelchair accessible trails, an indoor and outdoor classroom, educational display learning stations and an on-site naturalist.

The Centre offers educational programs, environmental activities for families and children and a variety of special events throughout the year.  All these programs, activities and events are delivered by our trained staff with assistance from a group of dedicated, educated and responsible volunteers under the guidance of our facility manager. Heartland Forest Outdoor Learning Centre’s goal is to provide fun and inspiring learning activities in a safe environment.




We believe that nature is a gift; that it has a way of bringing the best out in people and that we all have a responsibility to protect, maintain and sustain it for future generations. As stewards of the land, it is Heartland Forest's goal to preserve and educate. 

Heartland Forest Outdoor Learning Centre is the result of an amazing far-sighted vision of its founder, Mr. Dan Bouwman. These woodlands, which were slated for industrial use, were purchased by him in 1999. The focus at Heartland Forest is preserving the environment and educationing for future generations.
