Club Create

Heartland Forest’s Club Create is an opportunity for older youth and adults with intellectual, developmental disabilities or acquired brain injuries to participate in creating unique Arts & Crafts projects using mixed mediums and wood. Participants will be involved in preparing and finishing their projects using various tools, materials and techniques. Classes take place once a month, with two time slots available to choose from.

Club Create is a beginner’s level program recommended for individuals interested in Arts & Crafts and wanting to learn some basic woodworking.

4:00 pm to 6:00 pm OR 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Participants must be 16 years of age or older to register, and attend with a support person. See FAQ for questions about support persons.

Cost: $15 per class
We’ve added extra time. Instruction & initial construction typically takes 45mins. to 1hr, with time given for participants to complete their projects to take home at the end of each class.

Note: Registration closes the Thursday prior at 3pm

Club Create FAQs

Do I need to create an Amilia SmartRec account to attend?

Yes, all the information you need and the forms Heartland Forest needs completed are on Amilia. This can be done online, we recommend the desktop version over mobile for completing registration.

What if I don’t have a credit card?

Once you’ve created an account on Amilia SmartRec, you can come in and make payment at Reception in the Nature Centre, Monday to Friday 9 am to 3 pm. In addition to credit, we accept, cash, debit or cheque (we do not accept e-transfers).

What if I can’t make it to the class?

Only days cancelled by Heartland Forest will be rescheduled. Missed classes are non-refundable.

What if I decide to cancel before the program begins?

Once a registration has been accepted and processed, Heartland Forest will follow the refund schedule below:
• Refund requests made at least at thirty-one (30) days before the participant is scheduled to attend the program, will be provided, minus a fifteen dollar ($5) administrative fee.
• Refund requests made twenty-nine (29) days or less before the participant is scheduled to attend the program, no refund will be provided.
All refunds will only be provided to the original credit or debit card used for online and in person sales. A cheque will be issued to provide a refund for any cash transactions.

Can the Passport Program cover the cost to attend Club Create?

Yes, participants have used Passport funding to attend. Customers are to use the program payment receipt to submit for approval and reimbursement from Passport.

What is the Instructor to participant ratio?

This can vary from session to session. Based on maximum attendance, it would be 1:8

Why do I need to attend with a support person?

Two reasons we ask participants to attend with a support person: changes to our insurance coverage require 1:1 support when using/operating certain equipment/machinery, and Instructor and participant feedback suggest a better overall experience, with better outcomes for participants who attend with supports.

What is a support person and who can be one?

Support persons help people with disabilities maintain their independence and assist or interpret for a person with a disability who accesses the services and programs of Heartland Forest. Support persons accompany the person with a disability in order to help with communication, mobility, personal care, medical needs or with access to goods, services or facilities.
A support person can be a paid personal support worker (PSW), a volunteer, a family member, or a friend. They do not necessarily need to have special training or qualifications.

Can a support person provide support for more than one participant in the class?

Yes, but this limited to 1 support person attending with 2 participants.

SENSORY ALERT!

Please be advised there may be loud noises, exposure to different tactile stimuli and
smells during Club Create classes. (i.e. hammering, machine noises from saws/drills, contact with and
smell of paint/stain, glue, clay, paste etc.) Noise reduction earmuffs, gloves, and handwash station are available. NOTE: Personal protective equipment (PPE) – safety glasses, masks, gloves will be a safety requirement for some projects.
