Heartland Forest’s wood shop is located in the north wing of the new Nature Centre and offers 800 square feet of workspace. Thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, it is equipped with modern woodworking tools that handle lumber, acrylic, leather and metal. With vaulted ceilings and a private double-door entrance, it is well positioned adjacent to the 1800 square ft Arts and Finishing Studio.
The wood shop opened in 2014 and with the support of many community partners and volunteers we were able to run a Monday morning program with participants from Brain Injury Community Re-entry.
We have grown to include programs for young adults with autism, one-on-one rehabilitation sessions for adults with acquired brain injury and group sessions for adults from Community Living.
