Heartland Forest is going to be hosting two Oak wilt monitoring events; July 14th from 6:00pm-7:30pm, and July 28th from 5:30pm-6:30pm.

Oak tree

Oak wilt is a vascular disease that comes from fungi. The disease spreads from infected trees to nearby healthy trees. This causes sudden wilting, early leaf drop, and discolored leaves. Once a tree is infected, the disease can rapidly progress and cause death. Sometimes the process only takes a year.

Oak trees have the ecological importance of stabilizing slopes, limiting soil erosion, and reducing air pollution. We want to keep our trees healthy. This monitoring event will help us track down which trees carry the disease. That way we can remove it before it spreads to neighboring healthy trees.

Learn how to identify oak trees and oak wilt disease, and how to prevent it! We will have a learning presentation, then take everyone for a guided walk.
