Join Heartland Forest for a morning of discovery in our meadow habitats! This family-friendly Meadow BioBlitz combines citizen science, pollinator education, and hands-on learning opportunities designed to help participants better understand the incredible biodiversity found in native meadow ecosystems.

Participants will rotate through a series of educational stations and activities, including:


Meadow Butterfly Count

Help us monitor butterfly populations as part of ongoing citizen science efforts. Learn how butterfly counts contribute to conservation and discover common species found in Niagara’s meadows.

Pollinator Habitat Station

Explore the importance of pollinators and learn how native plants provide essential food and shelter for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Discover ways you can create pollinator-friendly spaces in your own community.

Meadow Ecology & Plant Identification Workshop

Join environmental consultant Tom Staton for a guided exploration of our meadow habitat. Learn how to identify native meadow plants, understand the ecological relationships that support biodiversity, and discover the role meadows play in supporting wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Throughout the event, participants will have opportunities to record observations, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for the plants and animals that make meadow habitats so valuable!

No experience is necessary. This event is suitable for nature enthusiasts of all ages.

What to Bring:

  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Closed-toe footwear
  • Water bottle
  • Smartphone or camera (optional)
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent

Anyone is welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
