Learn how to ID salamanders and why we should protect their habitat.

Vernal Pools are shallow depressions that usually contain water for only part of the year.  Since they eventually dry up, fish cannot survive in them, making them ideal breeding grounds for amphibians like many species of frogs and salamanders.
Help Heartland Forest staff monitor these unique habitats

We will be stepping off trail for this activity
Precautions: poison ivy, shallow water, uneven terrain
